Stretch out in a comfortable bed after wining and dining your way through Cape May.

Events range from beer and wine tastings to classes and seminars, and most are open to everyone (excepting children). More than two dozen restaurants are participating, along with dozens of chefs, vintners and and sommeliers. Favorite activities include the Monday through Friday Gourmet Lunches, held at a different restaurant each day, and the Chefs Dine Around – five course dinners, each course is held at a different restaurant.

It’s always fun to attend a class on Victorian Etiquette (puts our manners to shame), and to learn about various teas, cheeses, and how to pair wine and food. Learn about blends (just what is the different between a varietal and a wine blend?) and the complexities of German beer. There is truly something for all tastes.

The trolleys will be out in force, shuttling participants from one event to the next, one restaurant to another. Sidewalks are sure to be full of people trying to stave off the accumulation of extra pounds. We recommend simply bringing loose clothing.

It is indeed a festive time at our bed and breakfast Cape May. We just love to hear about meals our guests loved, wines they enjoyed, and classes they attended. There are some mighty fine restaurants in town – come try a few.

The first play of the 2010 season runs Wednesdays – Sundays through June 12, 2010: the world premier of Class, by Charles Evered. It stars Thaao Penghlis as Elliot, a veteran acting teacher in NYC, and Heather Matarazzo as a mysterious young actress who seeks his expertise. The play has been called fresh and dramatically intriguing by NJ Entertainment; the characters have depth and complexity.

The playwright, a New Jersey native, has said that “Class is really sort of my love letter to some amazing and accomplished theatre professionals I’ve had the pleasure of working with and studying under. Some of those teachers and teaching artists have become mentors to me – and I’m proud to say I’ve learned more about life in general from them than just about theatre and writing and acting.”

While Class takes place in the world of theater, it also rises above it. Indeed, “Class is a play for everyone who has ever had a teacher or a mentor that has made a difference in their lives.”

Spring to our Cape May B&B for the Spring Festival

The Cape May Spring Festival is underway. It began last weekend, and continues through Sunday, May 2, 2010.

We still have a few openings mid-week at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast, so if you can be spontaneous and are in the mood to celebrated spring, give us a call and come on over. The best part of traveling mid-week is that you benefit from our NJ Bed and Breakfast mid-week special, available through May 27.

Come enjoy a taste of spring in Cape May during the Spring Festival. Murder Mystery Dinners, Wine tours, Victorian Seminars, Garden Tours…. There is so much to do, you had better hurry and get here!

Expect the unexpected when Craig McManus come to Cape May.

The John F. Craig House is one of three Cape May Inns participating in this fascinating weekend with Craig. Friday evening, April 9, enjoy a meet and greet with Craig at our Cape May bed and breakfast. Saturday afternoon there will be a tour of all three participating bed and breakfasts Cape May. Then have dinner with Craig at the Mad Batter Saturday evening, followed by a channeling session.

Craig has often facilitated encounters between the living and their loved ones here in Cape May. He can’t make guarantees, of course, but he has successfully brought people into contact with each other more than once.

Shemekia Copeland

The Jazz Festival opens Friday April 16, 2010 with Spiro Gyra. They know how to blend funk, instrumental pop, blues, Latin, and straight jazz like no one else. Shemekia Copeland unleashes her powerful “blast-furnace” voice in two performances on Saturday night.

Tim Warfield, Mississippi Hat, Chuchito Valdes, B.B. Lenz, the Shook Russo Quartet and Charles Walker are a few of the more than 30 artists participating in the Cape May Jazz Festival April 16 – 18, 2010. If you love jazz, you’ll love this festival.

We welcome jazz aficionados to our bed and breakfast Cape May. We’ll feed you well in the morning, ply you with relaxing conversation and refreshments before you head out for the evening shows, and recommend good places to dine.

This is a conference for singers and songwriters, though the public is welcome and encouraged to attend the performances. While performers learn about the music trade and how to succeed in it, you can hop from venue to venue, taking in music until there is no more room in your ears. Come join the fun!

Many of these performers are young, and their talent is strong. It’s worth stepping out of your routines to hear these folks sing, and to listen to the words they’ve written. It’ll do you good, and they’ll appreciate your support.

Meanwhile back at our Cape May inn, we’ll be carrying on as usual. We’ll feed you too much delicious food in the morning. We’ll gather for refreshments at 5pm, eager to hear tales of your day if you care to share them. Hope to see you there.

The Victorian architecture of Cape May sets the perfect mood to solve a Sherlock Holmes mystery. We hope you’ll accent your cap and pipe with full-on Victorian garb, and that you’ll have fun wandering the gaslit streets of Cape May in search of clues. Friday, March 19, 8:30pm – The Game’s Afoot with coffee and dessert in the Rose Room at the Inn of Cape May, when you’ll learn details about the mystery to be solved.

Saturday, March 20, 1 – 3:30pm – A Self-guided tour of Cape May Bed and Breakfast Inns. Keep an eye out for Holmes, Watson, and an assortment of unsavory characters as you look for clues.

Saturday afternoon, 3:30 – 4:30 pm – Back at the Rose Room, explore the relationship between Holmes and Mmme. Reinhart, and examine your evidence.

Sunday afternoon, 12:30 pm – Holmes Unlocks the Mystery in the Rose Room of the Inn of Cape May. Were you on the right track, or are you the 2010 spring Clueless Wonder? Prizes will be awarded to winners.

We always enjoy Sherlock Holmes Weekend at our Cape May bed and breakfast. It is too much fun to galavant around town wearing our thinking caps, in search of clues. Hope to see you then!

After lunch at a Cape May restaurant (TBA), you’ll board the MAC trolley and head off to your first winery. You’ll visit at least three vineyards – more if time permits – where you will learn a bit about viticulture. Of course, there will be tasting, and since you are traveling by trolley, you may taste to your heart’s content.

Cape May Winery started small, but has grown into the fourth largest NJ winery. With over twenties different varieties, you are sure to find a bottle you like.

After visiting Hawk Haven Vineyard, you will certainly be enticed to return to their wine bar some evening.

Natali Vineyard has been in operation for ten years; their focus is the vineyard, where they are producing some excellent wines.

Finally, Turdo Vineyard is one of the only North American wineries to produce Nero D’Avola – one of Sicily’s most renowned wines. In addition, it is now the only vineyard in NJ to run 100% on solar power.

This is a great addition to a weekend at our Cape May lodging. Bring back your favorite Cape May wines for your friends and family. Heck, why not bring back a few cases of this fine NJ wine, so you’ll always have a taste of Cape May with you at home.
