We’re offering a Winter Special at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast that’s too good to pass up. It really is.

The winter months are quiet in Cape May; fewer people come here when it’s too chilly to sunbathe. Because of that, it’s deliciously peaceful. We can stroll the beach any time of day and have it mostly to ourselves. We can bike all over town at our leisure. We can eat where we want, when we want.

Yet it is just as beautiful here as it always is. Many inns and historic homes are still festively lit after dark, making evening strolls a delight. On sunny days, it’s good to feel the warm sand between our toes. On blustery days, we curl up by a warm fire, book in hand.

Between now and Easter, weekend nights are a mere $195; Sundays through Thursdays are just $165 for one night and $300 for two nights. If you stay at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast for a third night during the week, it will cost you only $99.

The bikes await. The beaches beckon. The fire is crackling in the fireplace. Winter is still here. Make the best of it. Come to Cape May.

Please see our specials page for more details.

Readers nominated 647 towns, and budgettravel.com whittled the list down to 10 small communities. Cape May shares the honor with Beaufort, NC, Cooke City, MT, Damascus, VA, Hammondsport, NY, Jerome, AZ, Nashville, IN, Port Townsend, WA, Ste. Genevieve, MO, and Weaverville, CA.

Budgettravel.com raves about our beaches, our Victorian architecture, and the town’s much-lauded paranormal activity. Excellent restaurants, birding, and Cape May Point State Park are also mentioned, as are Cape May’s Bed and Breakfasts.

Back in 2010, Forbes Travel listed Cape May as one of the prettiest towns in America. We’re hoping we’ll also be known as one of the coolest.

Imagine sleeping late on Thanksgiving morning instead of jumping out of bed early and running to the kitchen.

Imagine coming down to a gourmet breakfast and leisurely enjoying a second cup of coffee instead of frantically cleaning your home.

Imagine walking a block to the beach and stretching your legs alongside the Atlantic instead of sitting for hours in a car, stuck in traffic.

Imagine the feeling of the ocean breeze caressing your face as you walk the beach, and the appetite growing in your belly.

That’s what Thanksgiving could be like if you spend it at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast.

Plenty of restaurants in Cape May serve Thanksgiving dinner:

Blue Pig Tavern. Thanksgiving served fireside, at your own table.

Congress Hall Ballroom. Thanksgiving served buffet style.

Hemingway’s. Traditional Thanksgiving dinner buffet.

Union Park. 4-course prix fixe menu.

The Washington Inn. A la carte menu, with many pies.

The Merion Inn. Special Thanksgiving menu.

Our Cape May Bed and Breakfast will be warm and cozy all day. Warm yourself by the fire after a chilly beach walk, or spend the day curled up with a book. We invite you to enjoy a cup of tea or glass of wine at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast before you dine elsewhere.

The day after Thanksgiving, let the holiday shopping begin. Cape May shops – many of which are walking distance from our inn – will be open for business.

Cape May is 2 hours from New York City, Wilmington, and Trenton, and it’s 90 minutes from Philadelphia. So close, and yet so different. When you drive towards Cape May, the first thing you notice is the beauty of the open marshlands, and the salty fragrance of the sea. Once you’re in town, you realize the tension has left your shoulders, and that you feel lighter, happier. This is especially true at this time of year.

Children are back in school now, and families are entrenched in routines during the week: dance classes, instrument lessons, soccer games…. The air feels crisp. Still, folks are reluctant to bid farewell to summer. September and even October weekends in Cape May are often abuzz with activity. If you’re looking for a true escape from stress and a truly delightful quick getaway, we suggest visiting Cape May midweek.

Sleep in while you're here, or get up early and watch the sun rise over Cape May Point.

Instead of driving to work one morning, sleep in a bit and then drive here. Traffic will be light, and by the time you get here, there will undoubtedly be a smile on your face.

There is plenty to do in Cape May midweek, and there are fewer people doing it. During the week, the beaches of Cape May stretch out, bare and inviting. Mornings and evenings are deliciously cool, but the Atlantic Ocean is still warm. Restaurants keep their windows and doors open, so the fresh air can waft inside. Locals who have been busy working hard all summer take time to linger and chat. The whole town feels relaxed, and that feeling is contagious.

We understand that it can be hard to get away during the week, so we’ve created an incentive. Mention our Midweek Special when booking a room at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast (Sunday through Thursday) and you’ll pay only $165. Please see our Specials page for details.

Borrow a bike and pedal around town. Walk the beach. Breathe deeply. Climb to the top of Cape May Lighthouse. Take a scenic cruise. Take a nap. Read a book. Talk. Check out Happy Hour at a local restaurant – there are great midweek deals at The Harbor View and The Pilot House. Or perhaps you’d simply rather enjoy Tea Time at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast.

It doesn’t matter what you do and it doesn’t matter if you don’t do at all. Just be here, and be happy.

Cape May Stage has a varied and exciting line-up for the summer of 2011. Guests of our Cape May NJ Bed and Breakfast may return here again and again throughout the summer and never see the same performance twice. Upcoming highlights include the Women of Broadway series, a Denim and Diamond Gala, and a mind-reading illusion show. Three plays will be performed in addition to these special events.

The Understudy is the latest comedy written by Theresa Rebeck. Delve into the jealousies, passions, and rivalries that take place behind the scenes in this vivacious satire. The Understudy runs Tuesdays – Sundays, June 22 – July 30, 2011.

The New York Times says Steel Magnolias is “brimming with originality, wit and genuine affection”. There are no secrets in Truvy’s hair salon, but gossip, laughter, and tears are plentiful. Steel Magnolias runs Tuesdays – Sundays, August 3 – September 10, 2011.

Before you head out for a night at the theater, linger for T-time at our Bed and Breakfast Cape May NJ. T-time takes place each evening between 5 – 6 p.m. All guests are welcome to stop by for a glass of freshly made Fresh Fruit Punch, a glass of wine (our Chateau Blanc), or a combination of the two, affectionately known as Barbara’s Sangria. It’s always relaxed and entertaining.

These are quiet times at our Cape May NJ Bed and Breakfast. The beaches are windswept, the snowdrifts still white, and the crowds slim. In short, it’s the perfect time to steal away from wherever you live and spend some time on the NJ shore. Philadelphia, Trenton, and Wilmington are a short drive from here, but they are nothing like this Victorian seaside town.

Spend an afternoon touring Cape May County’s wineries: Cape May Winery, Turdo Vineyard, Hawk Haven Vineyard, or Natali Vieyard, where you may taste locally crafted wines and learn a bit about the wine making process. Have tea at the Carriage House at the historic Emlen Physick Estate; while there, be sure to visit the Carriage House Gallery’s exhibit entitled, Can I Get a Witness! A Testament to the Black Church in Cape May County. Bundle up and enjoy a Trolley Tour through town.

Of course, you may just want to devote your time to blustery walks on the beach and reading by the fire. Sometimes the best mini-vacations are the ones during which we make no plans at all.

Our Bed and Breakfast Cape May is just 90 minutes from Philadelphia, and two hours from Wilmington, DE, and Trenton, NJ. Treat yourself to a few days of quiet this winter at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast, where you can sleep in, eat well, and simply relax.

Thanksgiving is an excellent time to take pause and reflect on what is good in life. When we do that, the guests of our Cape May bed and breakfast leap to mind.

Some of you we see rarely and some of you return again and again. Some of you are married here and some come to celebrate 50th anniversaries. Some prefer summer travel, while we know we’ll see others in the fall. You are all wonderfully unique.

One of the reasons we became innkeepers is because we love people. We still do, after all these years. That’s because of you.

Thank you.

Walk to the top of the Cape May Lighthouse while in town.

Don your caps, all you Sherlock wanna-bees, and take advantage of a fabulous special at our Cape May bed and breakfast. Get out your magnifying glass and try to find a one night “hole” in our bed and breakfast Cape May schedule. If you do, and if you can fill it, you’ll enjoy the room for a mere $195 (plus NJ taxes). Now that’s substantial savings!

There is a lot going on these days in Cape May. The beaches are full, the restaurants are hopping, and the shops are bustling. Romance/Romance is showing at the Cape May Stage, and history is living at Cape May’s Cold Spring Village. Our guests enjoy tours of Fisherman’s Wharf, and Designer Show House Luncheon and Dinner Tours. They have fun wine tasting at Cape May wineries, and sipping tea at the Carriage House Tearoom.

You could be here, too, you know. Grab that Holmes hat and check out our reservation page. When you find a hole, book it and mention the “Find a Hole” Special.

See you soon!
