The East Lynn Theater in Cape May

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Yup, it’s time to talk theater again here at our Cape May Bed Breakfast. This time we want to discuss The East Lynn Theater Company, which is presenting ALICE ON THE EDGE at 8:30 tonight. Written by Alice Gerstenberg (1885 to 1972), who had a strong feminist strain and called traditional theater into question, “Alice On The Edge” is in fact four extremely witty one-act plays. “Fourteen” follows a household as it prepares for a dinner party while a blizzard howls outside. “Illuminati in Drama Libre” is reminiscent of Waiting for Godot, although in fact Alice Gerstenberg’s play predates Beckett’s by 35 years. The 1915 play “Overtones” was extremely controversial when it premiered, because it was the first time alter egos were ever presented on stage. Finally, “He Said and She Said,” questions the motivations of a single women who spends a great deal of time with her best friend and that friend’s husband.

The East Lynn Theater presents “Alice on the Edge” from June 17 through July 25. Why not look into getting tickets while you are staying at our Cape May b and b. Tell us what you thought of it over waffles and coffee the next morning.
