Midweek is Special in Cape May

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Cape May is 2 hours from New York City, Wilmington, and Trenton, and it’s 90 minutes from Philadelphia. So close, and yet so different. When you drive towards Cape May, the first thing you notice is the beauty of the open marshlands, and the salty fragrance of the sea. Once you’re in town, you realize the tension has left your shoulders, and that you feel lighter, happier. This is especially true at this time of year.

Children are back in school now, and families are entrenched in routines during the week: dance classes, instrument lessons, soccer games…. The air feels crisp. Still, folks are reluctant to bid farewell to summer. September and even October weekends in Cape May are often abuzz with activity. If you’re looking for a true escape from stress and a truly delightful quick getaway, we suggest visiting Cape May midweek.

Sun Rises Over Cape May Point

Sleep in while you're here, or get up early and watch the sun rise over Cape May Point.

Instead of driving to work one morning, sleep in a bit and then drive here. Traffic will be light, and by the time you get here, there will undoubtedly be a smile on your face.

There is plenty to do in Cape May midweek, and there are fewer people doing it. (more…)

Come to the Cape May Music Festival

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

The 2011 Cape May Music Festival will soon be underway, filling this seacoast town with fantastic music. We still have a few openings at our Bed and Breakfast Cape May NJ during the festival, which runs May 26 through June 15, 2011.

Be spontaneous, drop everything, and travel to our Cape May Bed and Breakfast in time to see The Pride of New York on Thursday, May 26. These traditional Irish Musicians will knock your socks right off your feet.

The Pride of New York plays Cape May on May 26, 2011.

Listen to the New York Chamber Ensemble play Dvorak, Wolf, and Mozart on Tuesday, May 31.

Take a few days off in the beginning of June, and see jazz pianist George Mesherhazy and Friends on Sunday, June 5, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players on the June 7.

Bach’s Lunches will be offered at The Carriage House Tearoom & Café on Wednesdays during the Cape May Music Festival: June 1, June 8, and June 15 at 12:30 p.m. After lunching on freshly baked scones, tea sandwiches, and desserts, listen to members of the Bay-Atlantic Symphony perform favorite pieces by Bach.

You’ll have plenty of time to walk the beach and browse the shops of historic Cape May in between concerts. We have beach towels and chairs available for you use, and you’re welcome to borrow one of our bikes to tour town. As always, we invite guests to join us for afternoon “tea time” on the porch of our Cape May Bed and Breakfast, around 5 p.m.; cool off with a drink before heading to your evening concert.

Please visit the Cape May Music Festival for additional information and to purchase tickets.

Winter in Cape May

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

These are quiet times at our Cape May NJ Bed and Breakfast. The beaches are windswept, the snowdrifts still white, and the crowds slim. In short, it’s the perfect time to steal away from wherever you live and spend some time on the NJ shore. Philadelphia, Trenton, and Wilmington are a short drive from here, but they are nothing like this Victorian seaside town.

Spend an afternoon touring Cape May County’s wineries: Cape May Winery, Turdo Vineyard, Hawk Haven Vineyard, or Natali Vieyard, where you may taste locally crafted wines and learn a bit about the wine making process. Have tea at the Carriage House at the historic Emlen Physick Estate; while there, be sure to visit the Carriage House Gallery’s exhibit entitled, Can I Get a Witness! A Testament to the Black Church in Cape May County. Bundle up and enjoy a Trolley Tour through town.

Of course, you may just want to devote your time to blustery walks on the beach and reading by the fire. Sometimes the best mini-vacations are the ones during which we make no plans at all.

Our Bed and Breakfast Cape May is just 90 minutes from Philadelphia, and two hours from Wilmington, DE, and Trenton, NJ. Treat yourself to a few days of quiet this winter at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast, where you can sleep in, eat well, and simply relax.

Walk on Cape May NJ Beaches

The folks at The Travel Channel get around, and they have placed Cape May NJ on the list of best beaches from around the world. This is no small honor, as anyone who has ever traveled to other beaches on the list – such as Mykonos Island, Greece or Pink Sands, Bahamas – must surely realize.

Yes, we take our beaches seriously here, raking them each morning. It is a true pleasure to walk or stretch out on these sands. Historically, Cape May NJ has been the stomping ground of the rich, the famous, and the powerful. Indeed, many a president has walked along these beaches. According to Finn-Olaf Jones of the Travel Channel, “Cape May is the aristocrat of beaches.” Come and let yourself be king or queen for a while.

Our Cape May Bed and Breakfast is close to the beach. Have a sunrise stroll on the beach and return to delicious, home-made breakfast. As you digest, sit on our porch and watch the passerby. Our Cape May Inn is in the heart of the historic town, making it ideal for people watching and exploring the town on foot. We look forward to seeing you.
