It is a Wonderful Life in Cape May

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

This Wonderful Life, now at the Cape May Stage.

Watching It’s a Wonderful Life never fails to lift our spirits. Watching This Wonderful Life at the Cape May Stage is sure to have the same effect. If you’re planning a getaway at our whimsical Cape May Bed and Breakfast in the coming weeks, we’ll hope you’ll check it out.

This Wonderful Life is a one man show based on Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life. Steve Murray steps into the characters of George Bailey, Clarence the Angle, and other residents of Bedford Falls with aplomb. His transformations are stellar. While we’ve never doubted that life is well worth living, it is reaffirming to see that realization dawn in George.

An evening at the theater is lovely, but “Dinner and a Show” is better. The Cape May Stage has partnered with several Cape May restaurants to offer just that, at a discount. Arrangements must be made through the participating restaurants: The Blue Pig Tavern, The Ebbitt Room, The Mad Batter Restaurant, Tisha’s, and The Washington Inn. More details are available at Dinner and a Show.

There is still time to squeeze in a short getaway to our Cape May Bed and Breakfast before the end of the year. Wrap up your gift shopping at the Washington Street Pedestrian Mall, just blocks from our inn, or spend your days comfortably ensconced in our festively decorated parlor as you put the finishing touches on knitting and sewing projects. Then in the evening, step out to the theater.

This Wonderful Life runs Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., weekends at 3 p.m., and December 20, 21, 27, and 28. The Cape May Stage is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Tickets are available at Cape May Stage.

A stay at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast will put you in the holiday spirit.

Spend Thanksgiving in a Cape May B&B

Broken

Watch the surf on Thanksgiving day in Cape May.

Imagine sleeping late on Thanksgiving morning instead of jumping out of bed early and running to the kitchen.

Imagine coming down to a gourmet breakfast and leisurely enjoying a second cup of coffee instead of frantically cleaning your home.

Imagine walking a block to the beach and stretching your legs alongside the Atlantic instead of sitting for hours in a car, stuck in traffic.

Imagine the feeling of the ocean breeze caressing your face as you walk the beach, and the appetite growing in your belly.

That’s what Thanksgiving could be like if you spend it at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast.

Plenty of restaurants in Cape May serve Thanksgiving dinner:

Our Cape May Bed and Breakfast will be warm and cozy all day. Warm yourself by the fire after a chilly beach walk, or spend the day curled up with a book. We invite you to enjoy a cup of tea or glass of wine at our Cape May Bed and Breakfast before you dine elsewhere.

The day after Thanksgiving, let the holiday shopping begin. Cape May shops – many of which are walking distance from our inn – will be open for business.

Midweek is Special in Cape May

Monday, September 19th, 2011

Cape May is 2 hours from New York City, Wilmington, and Trenton, and it’s 90 minutes from Philadelphia. So close, and yet so different. When you drive towards Cape May, the first thing you notice is the beauty of the open marshlands, and the salty fragrance of the sea. Once you’re in town, you realize the tension has left your shoulders, and that you feel lighter, happier. This is especially true at this time of year.

Children are back in school now, and families are entrenched in routines during the week: dance classes, instrument lessons, soccer games…. The air feels crisp. Still, folks are reluctant to bid farewell to summer. September and even October weekends in Cape May are often abuzz with activity. If you’re looking for a true escape from stress and a truly delightful quick getaway, we suggest visiting Cape May midweek.

Sun Rises Over Cape May Point

Sleep in while you're here, or get up early and watch the sun rise over Cape May Point.

Instead of driving to work one morning, sleep in a bit and then drive here. Traffic will be light, and by the time you get here, there will undoubtedly be a smile on your face.

There is plenty to do in Cape May midweek, and there are fewer people doing it. (more…)

Thanksgiving in Cape May

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Our favorite time of year is here once again – the Holidays. Each year we look forward to dusting off our decorations and transforming our Cape May bed and breakfast with lights and trains and wreaths. It’s a way for us to honor the past, for as we decorate, we remember the origin of each ornament and elf.

Stay in our cozy, well-lit inn during the holiday season.

We’ll be about 95% decorated come Thanksgiving (Chip insists on keeping our traveling Santa hidden until the turkey is consumed). Guests of our Cape May bed and breakfast will find the holiday spirit infectious, which is, truly, why many stay with us at this time of year. (more…)

Turn Back the Clock with New Year’s in Cape May

Through the Grass

Watch the sun set on 2009 in Cape May

Okay, we all know it isn’t possible to truly stop the passage of time, much as some of us may wish we could. The next best thing is DENIAL. Instead of looking towards the future this year, look to the past: spend New Year’s Eve in Historic Cape May NJ.

There are many advantages of welcoming 2010 in this Victorian Seaport: it’s safe, well lit, and easily walkable. You can travel by trolley. There are numerous excellent restaurants where you may savor your last meal of 2009. You can attend the theater, or listen to music.

Those of you who enjoy dressing to the nine’s will want to attend the New Year’s Eve Glitter Ball in the Congress Hall Ballroom, with five course meal, live entertainment, dancing and of course a champagne toast. For a less formal (and less pricey) evening, consider New Years Eve Boiler Room Fiesta, also at Congress Hall, or head to Carney’s New Year’s Eve Party. (more…)
